Hiring a Mover or Helper Just Got Easier

As the spring and summer months roll around and we get to working on outdoor and home improvement projects, you may find yourself in need of a little help  The other day I ran across this great site, HireaHelper.com.

It's a place where you can find movers, day laborers, cleaners.  For example, if you are in New York City, and you want to find New York City Movers, you just type in your zipcode and the day you are needing help, and then you click "compare prices," and a list of service providers will come up for you.


And likewise if you have a company and want to advertise your services on this list of New York movers you can set up a profile on their site so that people in need of your service can find you.

I was interested in this site for two reasons. For one thing, my husband used to own a delivery business, and I think this site looks a like great place for businesses to market their services.

And the second reason I was interested, was because my husband (despite the fact that he used to be mover and delivery person himself) is not a do-it-yourself kind of a guy at all. He would much rather pay someone to move our stuff or doother home improvement projects when possible.

Whenever we moved into our home, we actually did use movers. We had no choice but to do so because we had a 5 to 6 hour drive for our move, and down where we were living before we had no one who could help us load up all of our stuff (at least nobody my husband would trouble without compensating them).  And then once we got up here, our house wasn't completely ready to be moved into (ie - no flooring), so our stuff had to be placed in a moving facility for a week or so until we could move in.

Of course, moving is always chaotic with all the packing and unpacking, but at the end of the day I was just glad I didn't have to watch my husband lug furniture and boxes back and forth on moving day (or as it was for us, moving out day and moving in day).  And the movers we had were really professional and nice.

But I know that some people have had terrible experiences with movers as well, which is why I think the HireaHelper site looks like a good resource.  Once you search for a helper, they give you all sorts of information on the companies listed.  The listing gives you a price, and it tells you how many workers you're getting, and for how much time at that price.

It also tells you whether hey are liscensed or not.  And it gives you a list of their own equipment and services they provide (ropes, furniture dolly, etc.)

And perhaps most importantly, you get to see how many jobs they've completed through HireaHelper and how they were rated by customers.  For example, one company in our area had 21 completed jobs.  Only 8 customers came back online to rate them, but each one gave them 5 stars.
