New Ways to Follow Simply Sweet Home

In case you haven't heard Google Friend Connect will only be available to Blogger blogs after February. The way I see it, this affects everyone who's in one or more of the following categories:

1. A blogger using Wordpress or other blogging platform other than Blogger (obviously).

2.  A Blogger user who may switch platforms in the future.

3. A blog reader who would like to follow Wordpress or other blogs that do not have GFC.

4. A blogger who wants people (including those who are no longer using GFC) to follow their blog in some form.

Friday Favorites

Site Problems Fixed

Hey guys.  If you came by here earlier today and things were looking a bit "shabby" I apologize.

I had exceeded by bandwidth at photobucket and needed to upgrade to pro.  Had I known how close I was to exceeding, I would have upgraded sooner.  But the good news is that if my bandwidth was exceeded, that only means that people are actually placing my buttons on their sites.  So I guess I should thank you! lol.

Anyway, if you visited your own sites earlier today and my buttons didn't load properly, they should all be working now!  Thanks for understanding!

Announcements: Spring Gift Guide, Giveaway Winners, UBP, and Asking Advice

Hello Ladies & Gents! I have a few blog announcements (and some requests) to make today.

Spring Gift Guide - First off, I'll be launching my Spring Gift Guide in May (exact date to be announced).  The gift guide will be reserved for mostly small retailers (etsy shops, mompreneurs, etc.)  This is one of the things that I do to say thank you to all of my blog sponsors.  Everyone who sponsors my blog gets a feature post written about their shop, and then the gift guide feature is just a little something extra I do to say thanks and to help promote these talented ladies.  So if you'd like to be a part of that, take a look at my PR page for all the details on ad prices and packages.  Also, if you're interested in sponsoring a giveaway on Simply Sweet Home, I will include you in the gift guide as well.  So send me an email if you are interested in that.

Also, I have all the commenters from my UBP post saved in my inbox, so if you've visited me & commented, and I haven't been around to your blog yet, I should get around to you in the next few days.  And just because the party's over, doesn't mean the blog hopping has to stop!  I, for one, had an incredibly busy weekend and didn't have time to go to nearly as many blogs as I wanted to (although I did get a chance to visit some great ones! ::wink::).  And then I had a local event to go to which prevented me from going to the twitter party, so when I get an some "free time" I'm going to try and head over to some more blogs from the party!

Request for Blog Advice - Finally I have a small favor to ask. I've been thinking of swapping to my own unique domain this year, and I was discussing this with my husband the other day, and he thinks I should try to do that soon.  But I'll be honest....I'm clueless about this stuff!  I have a few people in mind that I'm probably going to email about this, just to get some general questions answered: which service did you use? how hard was the transition? etc.  And I just figured while I'm posting some announcements here, I may as well throw the question out there to everyone.  So if you've gotten your own custom domain, I'd love for you to tell me about your experience (in the comments or by email).  Some issues/problems that I've heard of from other people that I want to try and avoid are: losing followers, losing pagerank, losing comments, etc.  So if you can help out, I will greatly appreciate it! And I'll love you forever!

While hubby's been out of town as at a training conference, I've been a busy bee!

The new Simply Sweet Creations blog and shop have now been launched! Yay! The shop only has a few listings but you have to start somewhere. Right? And I promise there will be much more to come.

New Newsletter:

If you're interested, I've added a new newsletter to go along with the new blog. I'm not sure if I noted previously when I added the business blog or not, but in case I didn't, I should note: Each of the three blogs has it's own separate newsletter. So if you're subscribed at Simply Sweet Home, you will only get Simply Sweet Home Updates. If you want be subscribed to 2 or all three of them, you will need to subscribe separately at each blog.

The Simply Sweet Creations newsletter will only come out once a month (unlike the SSH newsletter which comes out once a week). And it will include the latest post updates, new products, and sales. Also, if you subscribe to the newsletter, I'll occasionally send out special coupon codes and subscriber-only sales. (If Hubby were here he'd say, "Oooh! How exclusive!") And since Simply Sweet Home is my main blog, sometimes I'll send out similar offers to the SSH subscribers as well.

New Button: Also, I was asked if there would be a new button for the shop. The answer is yes. My New Business Blog: Fortunato's Hat

Just a little annoucement to let you know that I'm working on a new business blog. As some of you are aware, my husband was laid off from his job a few months ago, and he's been looking for jobs and opportunities ever since. We recently got a call from the spouse of one of my husband's former co-workers, and she told us about a fairly new and growing business that, unlike others, doesn't have a ton of people doing it yet.

We looked at what it entailed and saw all the potential benefits to be gained from it, and we decided to give it a shot. In discussing our business plans, I talked about doing a little promotional stuff on Simply Sweet Home, but after giving it a little more thought, I decided it would be better for me to just start a whole new blog so that the business stuff doesn't overwhelm Simply Sweet Home.

Here's a little information on the new blog and its features: The new blog will basically chronicle our "work from home" journey and tell everyone what we're working on. Additionally since it is a site that is designed to promote a business, it will include links to our store front, and it will have information about our business and how others can get into the business we're doing.

I'll also be including some articles and tips for mompreneurs, small business owners, and people who want to work from home. And to keep it a little more interesting and fun, I'll sometimes have some product reviews and product highlights on the this site.

Please wish us luck and say a prayer for us as we start this new project. I'm not sure how well it will go yet, but I'm very optimistic. And if it goes even half as good as we hope, everyone one of you will want to join our team.

We're just getting it started up this week, so we don't have a lot of information to share yet, but there will be lots of updates very shortly. So stay tuned!
